Mahoe Cottage
The Mahoe Cottage is the perfect place for a romantic getaway. Smaller than Kowhai Cottage, it is secluded and peaceful, has an outdoor bath, and a cosy warmth all year round.
Upstairs the French doors lead out onto a spacious balcony. It has a table and chairs, is surrounded by jasmine and roses, the ideal spot for breakfast or a sundowner.
The queen-sized bed and bedside tables are made from Macrocarpa milled at Lavendyl and handcrafted by the original owner. The stairs and railings are also made from the Macrocarpa, adding to the rustic feel of the space.
It is possible to add a single put-u-up bed and travel cot in the bedroom for young families. However, due to the design of the stair surround, children must not be left unsupervised upstairs.
Downstairs the lounge is light and airy with a cosy sofa bed and a dining table with seating for four. The kitchenette is small and basic but more than adequate to make breakfast and simple meals. The bathroom contains a shower with good water pressure.
The French doors lead to the garden, where there is a deep outside bath and rainfall shower. Completed by a bench and table, it is ideal for couples, but, guests have said, it provides the best bathtime ever for parents and young children.
The cottage was not built with the needs of people with limited mobility in mind. The toilet is not wheelchair accessible. People with limited mobility are unlikely to manage the stairs. Similarly the stair design may mean they are unsuitable for people with limited sight. There is a comprehensive set of photographs of the interior of the cottage so you can determine its suitability for our needs.
You can order a packed lunch or evening meal. These need to be ordered 24 hours in advance.
The lavender and flower gardens of Lavendyl surround the cottages. These are separate from Dylans; guests are free to wander in them at their leisure. The gardens are open to the public during the day. There is an on-site gift shop that stocks quality lavender products and other gift items. You can also order these online.
Lavendyl is also home to Buster. He is a super friendly springer spaniel and is always willing to provide companionship.

We can provide you with an evening meal if you wish. You must book this at least 24 hours in advance.
We understand that people may have special dietary needs and can cater for these.
Daily Seasonal Breakfast
We provide a homemade continental breakfast for you to enjoy in the comfort of your cottage. A typical breakfast will have orange juice, muesli, yogurt, eggs from our chickens, and freshly baked bread. The eggs are fresh for you to cook as you wish. We pride ourselves on the bread selection we offer, from Scottish morning rolls to French baguettes, croissants, and Brioche made from scratch on-site.
Coffee, Tea & Assorted Beverages
The Mahoe Cottage has a Barista Coffee machine so you can make Capuchino and Latte whenever you want.
We stock your cottage with a selection of tea, coffee, and milk. Relax with a cup of Lavendyl’s lavender tea. Drinking chocolate is available on request. We can provide speciality milk, but you must request this 24 hours in advance.
Wow, such a heavenly place. So grateful we spent two nights away from the world. Love all the extras, bath/shower under the stars, sunny balcony, eggs and freshly baked brtead for breakfast. Can’t forget to mention the friendly dog!

Key Amenities
Free WiFi
The cottages have Wifi. However, this is rural New Zealand. Although the service is usually good, it can be a little slow at times.
Secure Off-Road Parking
All parking is off road. There is ample parking adjacent to each cottage for a trailer.
Outdoor Bath
The outdoor bath is pefect for a relaxing bath under the stars. Image lying back, in luxurious bubbles, enjoying a glass of something special, with a ceiling of twinkling stars.
Private Balcony
Each cottage has it's own private balcony where you can enjoy the sunset, mountain views or the clear night sky.
Laundry
Our laundry machines are in an area not accessible to guests, so we will launder for you: Give us your washing, we will wash and line dry it and return it to you ready to fold. If the weather is wet, we will tumble dry. The real bonus here is that you don't have to spend valuable holiday time on laundry.
Barista Coffee
The Mahoe cottage has it’s own barista coffee machine.
House Rules
Smoking is not allowed in any of the rooms or balconies. If you do smoke, then you may be charged for cleaning. Smoking is permitted outside only.
Similarly, candles may be burned outside but not inside or on the balcony. This is due to the fire risk they pose.
Guests must leave the cottages as they find them. An excessively untidy cottage, which requires additional cleaning, will incur an additional $20 charge. We will charge $20 for unwashed dishes.
We will charge for any damage to the room or property.
Cancellation Policy
Late cancellations have a significant impact on our small business, so we have a strict cancellation policy.
- Cancellation within 14 days is non-refundable.
- Cancellation 30-15 days prior is 50% refundable.
- Over 30 days fully refunded.
As Coronavirus is now well-understood, we no longer treat it exceptionally. However, if you can't stay with us due to Coronavirus, you may reschedule your stay at no additional cost.
Checkin & Checkout
Checkin is available from 14:00. Checkout is by 10:00. We accommodate late checkout/early arrival where possible.
Quiet Hours 11:00pm to 7:00am
Guests are asked not to use the balcony during quiet hours so as not to disturb other guests.
Guests are asked to ensure that noise is kept down to a level that will not disturb other guests during quiet hours.
Guests are asked not to play music outside during quiet hours.
